Jeremy Dale
Speaker and Golfer
Twofold Performance (the golf show & the motivational speech):
a) The Golf Show
Jeremy Dale is one of the world's leading golfing showmen or trick shot artists. If you love golf then you have to see this show because its an entertaining exhibition of unbelievable golf skills and humour. Jeremy holds a unique place in the world of golf as the only genuinely switch hitting trick shot artist in the world, just as good left or right handed. For the last 20 years Jeremy Dale has been a truly international performer and his show has been loved by audiences in 40 countries across 6 continents.
b) Motivational Speech Content
Everyone who watches Jeremys show assumes that he was a natural talent and could always hit amazing shots or was born ambidextrous. The truth is quite different and two moments in time illustrate the theme of Jeremy's speech, that we can all do more than we think..if we have the right mindset.
The first moment came with Jeremy's first job in golf, as a teenage caddie at the 1984 Open Championship for UK player John Garner. During that week he had a chance to meet the golf legend Gary Player and assumed that would be their only encounter. It wasnt. The second moment came 30 years later when Gary Player booked Jeremy to perform at his own charity event the day after the Masters.
The teenage caddie would not have believed that was remotely possible. Nor that in the intervening time he would have switched hands and broken par in a professional event left handed, coached a national champion, obtained a degree in psychology, become fluent in a foreign language (Dutch) and become one of the worlds best trick shot artists, winning competitions and performing all around the world. Jeremy has what psychologists now call a growth mindset and this is recognised as a key element for success in education, sports and business.
Through this theme of speech, he explains how adopting a Growth Mindset has implications for how we learn, our attitudes to failure and how to praise people for their good work. It defines his whole story and he always ends with a quote from the similarly minded Henry Ford, who once said: 'If you think you can, then maybe you can. If you think you can't, you're right'.
