Gemma Gardner

Founder and CEO of Holistic Dreamz, philanthropist and Inspirational Woman of the Year.
The Army was more than a job for Gemma Gardner it was more like her extended family for a long time. She signed up at the age of 17 and never knew any other life until health problems brought her military career to a sudden stop. Disabled by swelling and pain in her legs, the senior NCO was diagnosed with compartment syndrome, a disorder that causes pressure to build up in the muscles. Despite rehab, she was unable to walk without crutches and severe pain. Since being medically discharged from the army, after a hugely successful career, Gemma has fought a great many battles, those from within and those on behalf of others.

After leaving the army, Gemma created the not for profit; Direct Transitioning Help, to support and protect our armed forces members, and their families, before setting up the community interest company; DTH Foundation, which organises and runs community engagement projects in socially and economically deprived areas. Gemma founded Holistic Dreamz to give back to the holistic community who helped her, in her hour of need. Holistic Dreamz was created to ensure those who need help can find it, and those wishing to help are able to do so. Holistic Dreamz does so by advocating holistic practices and treatments, investing time in growing holistic businesses, and educating the wider world to the health and wellbeing benefits of holistic living.

In addition to such work, Gemma has been a business consultant for boost, and other such government and private organisations, to mentor struggling business and help develop business teams.

She uses her passion for life to bring people together, after listening to her speak everyone that meets her feel inspired to make those changes they need in order to live a successful life. Her military style approach ensures her natural leadership style comes across and those listening feel part of one team.

Gemma recently won the Inspirational Business Woman of the Year award, for all of her hard work and accomplishments.

Taking back control

Living in the present is something many of us struggle from. So ask yourself;
When your mind is busy, what do you do?
How do you stay in control of your thoughts?
It's to easy to let our thoughts take over, and we find ourselves struggling. Yet we fail to remember our voice is our strongest tool in our armoury.

Overcoming mental and physical barriers

Whats stopping you from achieving your true potential or attaining your goals?

We all have ideas of how we would like to improve our lives but very few of us actually set in motion the practical steps to make changes.
Most just talk and never do.

What can we do over come common things that get in the way and create obstacles to us achieving what we want:
- Reflect
- Focus on what you have overcome
- Do not judge yourself

FREE YOURSELF FROM THOSE NEGATIVE THOUGHTS

Tomorrow's leader's

What Is Leadership?

The word "leadership" can bring to mind a variety of images. For example:

A political leader, pursuing a passionate, personal cause.
An explorer, cutting a path through the jungle for the rest of his group to follow.
An executive, developing her company's strategy to beat the competition.
Leaders help themselves and others to do the right things. They set direction, build an inspiring vision, and create something new. Leadership is about mapping out where you need to go to "win" as a team or an organization; and it is dynamic, exciting, and inspiring.

Yet, while leaders set the direction, they must also use management skills to guide their people to the right destination, in a smooth and efficient way.

Women in business

Women account for under a third of those in self-employment, but over half the increase in self-employment since the recession started in 2008. Between 2008 and 2011 women accounted for an unprecedented 80% of the new self-employed. (Labour Force Survey, Office of National Statistics 2013).

There are now almost 1.5 million women self-employed which represents an increase of around 300,000 since before the economic downturn (Women in Enterprise: A Different Perspective, RBS Group 2013).

Women account for 17% of business owners, ie. owners/ managers/ employers (Labour Force Survey 2008, in Women in Enterprise: A Different Perspective, RBS Group 2013).

UK Womens businesses have a higher churn rate (ie. more start-ups and closures). But women are less likely to attribute closure to business failure and more likely to cite personal reasons which peak at age 25-34 for women. (Women in Enterprise: A Different Perspective, RBS Group 2013).

Change management

"What is change management?"

This is a question you may find yourself asking. While many of us know intuitively what change management is, we have a hard time conveying to others what we really mean.

In thinking about how to define change management:
The goal of change;
Improving outcomes by altering how and what we do.
