Catherine Spencer

Former England International Rugby player. Founder of Inspiring Women, an empowerment platform for female speakers and sports ambassadors.
During her career as an International Rugby player and a flourishing captain, Catherine Spencer won 63 caps for her country. She played in two World Cup finals, eight 6 Nations championships, as well as a number of Nations Cup competitions and European Cup tournaments.

Catherine has proudly carried the 'England player of the year' title in 2006 and picked up the Rugby Union Writers Club Award in 2010, recognising outstanding achievements within the sport both on and off the pitch. In 2011 she won the Linda Utley Award marking an outstanding contribution in her sports field.

In April 2014, Catherine left full time employment with the RFU to set up and establish her own company called Inspiring Women. Her business is described as a platform to find and encourage female speakers and ambassadors from the sports and adventure world to provide insight and share valuable lessons learnt with the business world.

Catherine has undertaken a number of different media engagements including regular studio pundit work with a number of media channels including Sky Sports; most recently she commentated on the 2017 Womens Rugby World Cup with ITV which attracted record breaking viewer figures. Catherine has written published articles for the Independent on Sunday and the Sunday Times and has written regular columns for the popular weekly Rugby Paper.

Catherine is the benefactor of the charity Tag Rugby Trust; a charity that she has been involved with since 2007 which works across a number of developing countries with the aim to Build futures through rugby. She feels passionately about helping to develop communities around the world using rugby as tool. Most recently Catherine and TRT are building their Female Inspiration through Rugby or FITR programme.

Catherine is also loyal to her Kent roots. She has been appointed a Patron of the Kent Messenger Group, joining a group of highly successful and experienced people who have come together in a voluntary arrangement to help all aspects of life in Kent, As Director of Womens Rugby at Old Elthamians rugby club Catherine is also helping to ensure the continued growth of Womens rugby in the region.

When time allows, Catherine is also penning her memoir Mud, Maul, Mascara with the intention of publishing in 2018.
