Chairman, Institute of Human Development • Bestselling author, Unstoppable – The Pathway to Living an Inspired Life • Creator, The Pathfinder Framework
Adrian Gilpin is Chairman of the Institute of Human Development, and creator of "Pathfinder", a framework that enables individuals and teams to reach beyond their natural inhibitions, doubts and fears and build on the science behind creating a fearless enterprise culture. He is the author of bestselling book "Unstoppable - The Pathway to Living an Inspired Life",

Adrians primary focus is on harnessing the power of social learning to tap into the most ancient and potent form of communication: storytelling. The stories circulating in an organisation are highly contagious, and they inevitably prophesy the future. Great leaders actively inspire a different type of storytelling, and thereby create a different type of culture.

IBM has cascaded Adrian's approach using Pathfinder - to 15,000 people (and counting) around the globe in their consulting business, an initiative with a tangible impact on the collective mindset, leading to financial returns so far unprecedented by any other learning programme.

Many organisations including IBM, PWC, Zurich, Deutsche Bank, Prudential Property Investment Managers, Barclaycard and the Commercial Bank of Kuwait have retained Adrian to coach their Managing Directors and facilitate their senior executives. Entrepreneurs work with Adrian to maximise the value of their enterprises; Adrian coached the board of Bookham Technology through the largest ever public floatation of any UK technology business, and mentored the owner of IRG Ltd during the lead up to the sale of his business to Capita for £100 million.

Adrian works regularly within the public sector too, including the MOD, and all three armed forces. He is a mentor to the founders of a number of social enterprises.

ENDORSEMENTS

"The alignment of executives is of utmost importance to the running of any business.
The processes used by IHD to achieve alignment are innovative, mentally strenuous and invaluable. Especially so when the prospect of a company sale appears.
Adrian took my team apart and re-aligned us. The results were amazing, and we created the unstoppable team which was totally in tune with each other.
I can truly say we could not have achieved our goals without the participation of IHD."
Stanley Davis, Chairman, referring to the sale of IRG Ltd for £100million

"One of the key ingredients to our growth and success was the program conducted by the IHD.
There are many training institutes around the world, but a lot of them forget the essence of local culture, corporate culture and how to communicate to those unique cultures.
Many training institutes have an approach of "cut & paste" unlike the programs we have enjoyed with IHD, where the practical training was as helpful as the theoretical side."
Fadi AbuNahl, CEO, Trust RE, Bahrain

"We adopted the Fearless programme alongside an initiative to reorient our business towards a strategic client portfolio and new services.
Fearless was invaluable in equipping my senior leaders with simple techniques to embrace new challenges and step outside their established comfort zones. It was especially effective in improving honest communication and teamwork, as individuals overcame the inhibitions that had previously kept them from asking for help from colleagues.
The programme also provided practical ways to help build more intimate personal client relationships and trust. Fearless remains an important enablement programme in my business."
Luq Niazi, General Manager, IBM GBS BeNeLux

Facing the future fearlessly?

There is a science to creating a fearless enterprise culture. The alternative is to allow personal inhibitions and anxieties to become the heaviest overhead your organisation carries. Minimise inhibition and nurture self-confidence and your organisation will grow exponentially.

The results we get in life are the automatic by-product of our behaviour. Our behaviour is the automatic by-product of how we feel. How we feel is the automatic by-product of our thoughts - the stories we allow to run through our heads. People think in stories.

In his presentation Adrian Gilpin will explore the following themes:

The most costly blocks to change, innovation, progress and achievement are not external factors but the personal inhibitions, uncertainties and doubts that dominate people's thoughts

People tell themselves only two kinds of story. One propels them forward, the other holds them back. When individuals and teams make the shift from "I can't" to "I can" extraordinary changes begin to happen.

Adrian's Pathfinder framework enables individuals to identify, simply and speedily, where their own internal storytelling (or self-talk) is limiting them and putting their potential at risk

By challenging self and each other, teams can quickly establish a culture where caution and anxiety give way to confidence and courage - both of which are highly contagious.

ENDORSEMENTS:

"We made pitches we would not have made previously, won business we would have lost, built relationships we would not have built, and resolved issues which would likely otherwise have allowed to drag on. The word "fearless" became part of our vocabulary."
Christine Wyatt, GM, IBM Global Business Services.
